Time-Division Duplexing (TDD)
StreamStar4 is based on TDD (Time Division Duplex) design. The uplink and downlink are split in the time domain instead of using a separate frequency for each.
TDD has significant advantages over FDD systems. While FDD systems are constrained by fixed uplink and downlink, TDD can be dynamically adapted for any traffic type including voice, broadband data, Internet, video, and any combination of those.
The 10ms frame is comprised of 8 timeslots, each of which can be assigned to uplink or downlink in software. Supported ratios are (UL/DL):
- 1:7
- 2:6
- 3:5
- 4:4
- 5:3
- 6:2
- 7:1
